Hong Kong entrepreneurs exchange ideas in Guangzhou
2018/9/26
A sharing session was recently held in Guangzhou to gather entrepreneurs to discuss cooperation between Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macao over the past 40 years.
During the past 40 years of reform and opening up, partnerships between Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macao have become increasingly close. Many entrepreneurs who are committed to promoting economic, trade and cultural cooperation among the three places have emerged.
Among them, Hong Kong entrepreneur Timothy Tsun-Ting Fok is one of the most high-profile representatives. The Fok family has contributed a lot to cooperation between Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macao.
"Guangzhou has changed a lot in the past 40 years." said Timothy Tsun-Ting Fok, president of Fok Ying Tung Group, recalling his father's investment history in Guangzhou.
Huo Ying Tung's first investment on the Chinese mainland was in the hotel industry, including the Hot Spring Hotel in Zhongshan and the White Swan Hotel in Guangzhou, two hotels with great significance at the time.
"The Fok family has strong roots in Guangzhou and my father has a deep concept of home," said Timothy.
In Fok Ying Tung's opinion, the basic reception capacity and transportation are two important elements of the development of a city. Since reform and opening up, thousands of roads and bridges in Guangdong have sprung up, greatly improving transportation capacity. He also thinks highly of Nansha, where he invested in a mine, laying the foundations for the rise of Nansha in the future.
Fok continued to carry forward the Nansha project after his father died in 2006.
"Geographically speaking, Nansha is not only one of the few excellent seaports on the Chinese coastline but also a place close to Hong Kong and Macao with development potential." he said.
Fok also expressed his hopes that Nansha's future construction would be more integrated into Guangdong's own characteristics.
During the sharing session, Fok placed a special emphasis on encouraging exchanges between young people on the mainland and young people in Hong Kong.
Other famous entrepreneurs from Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macao also spoke at the meeting sharing their investment stories, experiences, and their feelings about the development of Guangzhou over the past 40 years.
