A transportation network extending to all directions, including ship, land and air transportation, is built up around the capital city Guangzhou. The province's waterborne transportation extends to more than 1100 ports of over 130 countries and regions. It possesses the most mature and convenient transportation infrastructure facilities in China.
Guangdong is one of the few provinces which have the most developed freeway system. In the Pearl River Delta region, the overall construction of interurban subway system has been started in order to form "three-hour-life-circle" of the whole province and "one-hour-life-circle" of the Delta region. Connected with surrounding provinces of Fujian, Guangxi, Hunan and Hainan by means of freeways and railways, Guangdong plays the role of a transportation junction in South China.
A basic port pattern in Guangdong, with Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Shantou and Zhanjiang as pivotal ports, and Foshan, Dongguan, Zhongshan and other middle of small sized ports as supporting ports, has initially come into being.
Guangdong has Guangzhou New Baiyun Airport, one of the pivotal airports in China, and 6 other civil airports, including Shenzhen, Shantou, Zhuhai, Foshan, Zhanjiang, Meizhou; therefore, it is a province with the highest density of airports in Mainland China.
Water supply: geographical environment and agreeable climate make Guangdong a province with relatively abundant water resource. Its water price at present is comparatively low in the country.
Electricity supply: Guangdong is rich in electricity resource. In 2006, the newly installed capacity of generators reached 4.3 million KW, with the 110,000v or above level transformation capacity of 23.8 million kv-amperes.
Communication: Guangdong¡¯s post and communication has been at the leading position in China for 12 successive years. A telecommunication network, which mainly consists of microwave, optical fiber, open-wire microwave, satellite transmission, and stored-program control exchange devices, has been built up. Up to 2006, the telephone subscribers reached 107,568700, accounting for about 13% of total in the country; that is, nearly each one owned a telephone or mobile phone. The Internet users reached 8,161,600.
